FAQs for franchisees

Do I need to be a qualified sports coach to operate a Teddy Sports World franchise?

No, you do not.

While many of our franchisees come from a sports or coaching background, it is not a requirement. We also have highly successful franchisees who began with no coaching qualifications at all.

What matters most is your enthusiasm, your ability to work with children, and your willingness to follow our proven system. We provide full training-both business and coaching

—so you feel confident from day one.

Do I need to have access to a tennis court of sports facility to run a Teddy Sports World Franchise?

No, you do not.

Teddy Sports World programmes can be delivered almost anywhere— indoors or outdoors. You simply need a safe, open space with a surface that allows the balls to bounce consistently.

Many franchisees partner with schools, community halls, gardens, astroturf areas, and multipurpose rooms. We guide you through how to secure suitable venues during training.

What are the Unique Selling Points (USP’s) of Teddy Sports World compared to other children's programmes?

Teddy Sports World offers a truly distinctive programme unlike anything else in children’s sports education. Our key USPs include:

  • Teddy Sports Music. We have a catalogue of over 100 original Teddy Sports World songs, each written specifically to match a particular activity. The rhythm, tempo, and lyrics guide children through the exercises, making learning natural, structured, and fun.
No other children’s sports franchise offers such an extensive, purpose-built music system.
  • The Teddy Sports World Coaching Manual. Our comprehensive coaching manual provides step-by-step guidance for every lesson. It is educational, engaging, and designed to be incredibly easy to follow-coaches love it, and children respond brilliantly to the structure.
  • Teddy Sports World Pictures. Every Teddy Sports activity is supported by engaging visual illustrations of teddy bears
performing the skills. With over 100 activity images, this simple yet highly effective visual method captures young children’s attention and enhances learning.
  • A Structured, Research-Based Curriculum. Every Teddy Sports World programme follows a unique curriculum built around the Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic (VAK) accelerated learning model. This ensures sessions are engaging, inclusive, and perfectly suited to the way young children learn best.

Together, these elements create a programme that is fun, memorable, and highly effective-making Teddy Sports World a standout choice in the children’s sports sector.

How long has Teddy Sports World been operating?

Teddy Sports World has a long and well-established history.

The original company, Teddy Tennis Ltd, was founded in 2002 when cofounder Richard Bean developed the idea of using music to inspire young children to learn tennis. Over the following years, the concept grew to include visual learning, and three years were dedicated to developing the first Teddy Tennis Coaches Manual and recording the initial set of Teddy Tennis songs.

In 2010, the first Teddy Tennis Manual was formally published, and in 2011 the very first Teddy Tennis franchise was launched.

Since then, the programme has continued to expand:

  • Teddy Cricket launched in 2015
  • Teddy Soccer launched in 2016
  • Teddy Padel launched in 2024
  • Teddy Hoops will launch in 2026

All Teddy Sports programmes now sit under the Teddy Sports World umbrella brand.

Today, there are over 50 Teddy Sports World franchises operating worldwide, with more opening each year.

Why should I open a Teddy Sports World franchise instead of starting up on my own?

Building your own children’s sports programme from scratch is possible, but it requires years of development, extensive testing, and a significant financial investment. Teddy Sports World saves you all of that.

Our programmes are proven, trusted, and continually evolving. You gain immediate access to a complete, professional system that includes:

  • A fully developed curriculum
  • Specialist coaching manuals
  • Original music and visual teaching resources
  • Branding, marketing tools, and business systems
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing support
  • What would take years to create on your own is ready for you from day one

—allowing you to start earning sooner and operate with the confidence of a brand that already works brilliantly worldwide.

What makes a successful Teddy Sports World Franchisee?

Successful Teddy Sports World franchisees typically excel in three key areas:

  • High-Quality Coaching
Whether you coach yourself or hire coaches, passion for working with young children is essential. Great coaches who bring energy, enthusiasm, and warmth create memorable sessions that keep families coming back.
  • Strong Locations
Classes delivered in safe, accessible, family-friendly venues perform best.
Ideal locations are easy for parents to reach, feel welcoming, and —where possible-offer nearby activities or amenities for parents and siblings.
  • Effective Local Marketing

Promoting your classes within the community and using social media consistently is vital, especially during the launch phase. As your franchise grows, strong word-of-mouth recommendations become one of your most powerful marketing tools.

With these three ingredients, franchisees build thriving, long-lasting Teddy Sports World businesses.

What are the costs involved in setting up a Teddy Sports World Franchise?

There are four key costs involved in launching a Teddy Sports World franchise:

  • Franchise Fee
The franchise fee varies depending on the size and location of your chosen territory.
  • Training Fee
A one-time training fee applies. The amount depends on the number of coaches you choose to have trained and any associated travel or accommodation expenses.

You will need at least one full set of Teddy Sports World equipment, which includes the coaching manual, music, racquets, balls, nets, and other branded materials. The cost will vary based on how many locations you plan to operate.
  • Royalty Fees
The ongoing royalty fee is 10% of your gross revenue and is payable monthly, quarterly, or on agreed dates throughout the year.

These costs together provide everything you need to launch quickly and confidently with a fully supported, globally recognised programme.

While we do not offer in-house financing, many banks and financial institutions are often supportive of new franchise businesses. Should you require assistance, we can provide guidance a preparing your application and the information typically needed by lenders.

Is the Teddy Sports World business seasonal?

Teddy Sports World operates year-round, especially through our nursery and pre-school programmes. However, participation does naturally increase during the Spring, Summer, and early Autumn months, which are typically the peak seasons.

What is the normal size of a Teddy Sports World Franchise operation?

A typical Teddy Sports World Franchise territory covers a population of approximately 250,000 people (≤10%). The geographic size of the territory can vary significantly depending on population density and local demographics.

How long does it take for a new Franchisee to start earning money?

A Teddy Sports World franchisee can begin earning revenue as soon as they receive payment for their first Teddy Tennis classes. However, building a stable and sustainable business takes time. Most franchisees typically reach consistent, profitable operation within 6 to 12 months, depending on their marketing efforts and local demand.

Are there any limitations to how big I can grow my Teddy Sports World franchise?

The only real limitation to how big you can grow your Teddy Sports World franchise is reaching full market saturation – meaning the majority of children aged 2½ to 6 in your territory are already engaged in Teddy Sports World programmes. To grow to that level, you will likely need to build a team of coaches to help deliver sessions across more venues.

You can also expand your business by purchasing additional Teddy Sports World territories and/or operating more locations within your region.
