Teddy Tennis is founding programme of what is now know as Teddy Sports World, the umbrella brand name for a collection of  franchise programmes that deliver sports education and fun for children aged 2½ to 6 years

Much of the content in this section refers to Teddy Tennis; this is because Teddy Tennis is the oldest and our most established programme however the information provided here is equally applicable to all the Teddy Sports Worlds programmes.

FAQs for franchisees

Do I need to be a qualified sports coach to operate a Teddy Sports World franchise?

No you do not. As it happens most Teddy Sports World Franchisees are qualified sports coaches but we also have some successful franchise operations that are run by entrepreneurs who previously had no sports coaching qualifications.

Do I need to have access to a tennis court of sports facility to run a Teddy Sports World Franchise?

No you do not. Teddy Sports World programmes can be taught anywhere, inside or outside. The most important requirement is that the surface of the playing space is suitable for the balls to bounce evenly.

There are lots of children’s franchise programs on the market, what are the Unique Selling Points (USP’s) of Teddy Sports World??

Teddy Sports World has many USPs but the top four are:

  • Teddy Sports Music: There are currently over 100 Teddy Sports World songs in the “Teddy” music catalogue; each song has been specifically written for a particular “Teddy” Activity and provides the right rhythm and timing for doing the activity; the words of the song tell the children what to do. No other children’s franchise programme has developed such a focused or extensive range of music to accompany their programs.
  • Teddy Sports World Pictures: every Teddy Sports programme  activity, of which there are currently over 100, is taught using pictures of teddy bears playing Teddy Sports; this simple, interactive approach to teaching young children works brilliantly.
  • The Teddy Sports World Coaches Manual: their unique, comprehensive, educational and engaging, there is noting like it on the market and best of all young children love it.
  • Each of the different Teddy Sports World programmes follows a unique curriculum that has been developed using the Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (VAK) accelerated learning style.

How long has Teddy Sports World been operating?

The company (Teddy Tennis Ltd) was set up in 2002 when Richard Bean, one of the co-founders came up with the idea of using music to inspire children to learn to play tennis. Over the next few years the concept developed to include using pictures too and a further three years were spent developing the Teddy Tennis Coaches Manual and writing and recording the first Teddy Tennis set of songs. In 2010 the very first Teddy Tennis Coaches Manual was published and in 2011 the very first Teddy Tennis Franchise was sold. Other Teddy Sports programmes have followed, Teddy Cricket in 2015, Teddy Soccer in 2016 and in 2024 Teddy Padel. Teddy Hoops will be coming out in 2025.  Collectively the different Teddy Sports programmes have been marketed under the Teddy Sports World umbrella brand. Today there are over 50 Teddy Sports World  Franchises operating worldwide.

Why should I open a Teddy Sports World franchise instead of trying it on my own?

Teddy Sports World is proven and works, brilliantly. To set up something remotely similar of your own is doable but it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, take several years to complete and by then Teddy Sports World programmes will have evolved even further to make them even better still.

What makes a successful Teddy Sports World Franchisee?

There are three key characteristics that make a Teddy Sports World Franchisee successful:

    • Quality of the Coaching: Having great coaches is critically important and is essential that they have a passion for teaching young children.
    • Location: the location(s) where the lessons are taught need to be in a nice, safe location with easy access for parents and children to attend…. and ideally be able to offer the parents something to do too.
    • Local Marketing: local marketing and social media is key to promote Teddy Sports World, especially at the beginning.  Once established ‘world of mouth’ marketing will become key too.

What are the costs for setting up a Teddy Sports World Franchise?

There are four costs that you will need to cover in order to set up a Teddy Sports World Franchise.

  •  Franchise fees vary based on the size and location of your franchise territory.
  • There is a onetime training fee. This amount varies based upon the number of Coaches being trained and any travel/accommodation expenses.
  • Equipment: you will need at least one set of Teddy World equipment which includes the training manual, music, racquets, balls, net and other Teddy Sports World branded items. This cost can vary based on the number of locations.
  • Royalty Fees: the royalty fee is set at 10% of your gross revenue and is paid monthly, quarterly or at specified dates throughout the year in arrears.

Do you provide financing?

The set up costs for running a Teddy Sports World Franchise are very reasonable however should you require some assistance in this area then banks are normally very receptive to providing financial support to start up franchisees.

Is the Teddy Sports World business seasonal?

Yes and no; Teddy Sports World is a year round business (particularly in nurseries and pre-schools) but it’s popularity does go up in the Spring, Summer and early Autumn which are very definitely the peak periods.

What is the normal size of a Teddy Sports World Franchise operation?

A typical Teddy Sports World Franchise territory covers a population base of 250,000 people +/- 10%. The geographic size in terms of area can vary enormously.

How long does it take for a typical Teddy Sports World Franchisee to start making some money?

A Teddy Sports World franchise will make some money when they receive payment for their first Teddy Tennis lesson however it will take a little time for a Teddy Sports World franchisee to establish a sustainable, profitable business; typically this is between 6 to 12 months.

Are there any limitations to how big I could make my Teddy Sports World franchise

The only limitation you have to expanding your franchise is when you reach 100% saturation level of children aged 2½ to 6 learning Teddy Sports World in your area. To achieve anything close to this you will need to recruit a team of coaches to help you deliver the Teddy Sports lessons. You can of course expand you business by opting to purchase more Teddy Sports World territories and/or Locations.

What support does Teddy Sports World provide to its Franchises?

We provide an extensive level of support to help your franchise as our success is based upon you being successful.

We provide 3 types of support:

  • Marketing Support: we will start by setting up your marketing and social media programme for you.  We will then provide you with an extensive portfolio of marketing and social media material all of which can be customized. If you want something different specifically for you, we will create that too.
  • Operational Support.  We have had over 20 years of delivering and managing Teddy Sports Programmes; we will make all this experience available to you via a Client Liaison Manager.
  • Training. Training is key. As well as providing on-court training as part of the on-boarding programme, we will make avaialble to you our library of training videos.

We will tailor the level and extent of the support to meet your needs.

How do you deliver training for new Teddy Sports World Franchisees?

Training is very important, even to well qualified tennis coaches as the teaching system that is used in Teddy Sports World is quiet different from conventional tennis coaching. There are two methods to be trained to become a Teddy Sports World Coach:

  • Attend a Teddy Sports Training Course: Teddy Sports training courses are periodically held at designated centers in different geographic locations.
  • Have Teddy Sports World Trainers Deliver training at Your Location: If you have several coaches to be trained, it may be more economical to arrange to have “Teddy” Trainers deliver Teddy Sports World training at your location.

What plans do you have to further develop Teddy Sports World?

It is our intention to keep Teddy Sports World fresh, vibrant and new, hence we are continually writing new songs, creating new activities drawing new pictures and revising and developing new lesson plans: so you can expect to see a continual on – going evolution of Teddy Sports World coaching programmes including the introduction of Teddy Hoops in 2026.

How soon can I get a Teddy Sports World franchise up and running once I have signed the franchise agreement and paid the initial invoice ?

This can happen very quickly after you have signed the Franchise Agreement. Once you have signed the proposal, we need to organize your training and order your initial equipment. After your training we provide you with access to all the relevant Teddy Sports World Marketing material in the form of a Google Docs Folder. After all the requirements are completed you will need to start marketing and plan for your initial complementary trial lessons and scheduling your initial set of lesson: this whole process can be done in less than 1 month.

Can I speak to an existing franchisee to get their input on the programme?

Yes, we very much encourage potential franchisees to not only speak to existing franchisees, but wherever possible to see them delivering the programme too.

Where can I get more information about Teddy Sports World?

There are two key sources of further information about Teddy Tennis:

  • You then need to do some local market research and find suitable locations to deliver Teddy Tennis including nurseries and pre-school.
  • We need to have an initial conversation with you to discuss the opportunity and the location where you propose to deliver your chosen Teddy Sports World Programme.
  • You will need to submit a detailed business plan. We are happy to assist in developing your business plan with you.
  • We negotiate terms and send you a Teddy Sports World Proposal.
  • We schedule your Teddy Sports World training and order your Teddy Sports equipment.
  • We send you the Teddy Sports World Legal Agreement via DocuSign, you sign it on-line as do we.  We submit you an invoice for your Franchise Fee, Training and Equipment and once paid we start the on-boarding process and then you become an official Teddy Sports World Franchisee.
